No university students in custody for recent unrests: Minister

Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA – There is no university student still in custody because of recent unrests in the Iranian cities in protest to bad economic conditions, Iran's Interior Minister announced on Tuesday.

'According to the reports from the provinces, no university student is under arrest regarding recent unrests in Iran. Among the 9 people in custody in Tehran, nobody is a student either,' said the minister.

Rahmani-Fazli further said the number of the apprehended is fewer than 300.

'The cases of those in prison, who have committed offences in different Iranian cities, are being investigated by the judiciary officials', Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli said.

People are entitled to pursue their demands through legal ways, the minister reiterated.

On the Police reaction to the protestors, the minister said the police forces had good behavior towards the arrested and showed self-restraint.

Interior Ministry, as he said, has presented a report on the recent unrests in the country's cities to President Hassan Rouhani. The report includes the reasons behind the incidents and the ways to prevent them from happening.
