3rd ECO attorneys conference kicks off in Pakistan with Iran’s participation

Islamabad, Jan 30, IRNA - The 3rd two-day Economic Cooperation Organization Attorneys and Prosecutors General Conference started in Islamabad on Tuesday with Iran’s participation.

The meeting is implementation of Pakistan’s obligation as current chair of ECO. Pakistan holds the chair as the 13th ECO Summit was held in Islamabad on 1st March 2017.

Chairman Senate of Pakistan Raza Rabbani inaugurated the Conference.

While addressing the conference, he said cooperation among ECO member states is imperative for shared prosperity. He said development cannot be achieved without regional stability.

Raza Rabbani said Pakistan government is also taking action against human traffickers and smugglers.

He emphasized the need for promotion of national and international cooperation in this regard.

He said 21st century belongs to Asia and therefore, we have to enhance linkages.

The Secretary General of ECO, Halil Ibrahim Akca is leading the delegation of the ECO Secretariat.

Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost is representing his country in the conference.

Earlier Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson in a statement said that Pakistan, being a founding member and the current Chairman of ECO extends full support to ECO projects and initiatives.

It said Pakistan has always played an active role to ensure regional integration and interdependence amongst member states.

“We support ECO’s initiatives and have always encouraged further enhancing the current steady progress. Pakistan is working for the implementation of the agreements in the Islamabad Declaration and vision 2025 adopted on 1st March 2017 in Islamabad,” it said.
