Tremor shakes Shahmirzad in northeastern Iran

Semnan, Jan 27, IRNA – A quake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted the suburbs of Shahmirzad, in northeastern Iranian province of Semnan on Sunday.

The quake occurred at 16:09 hours local time (12:39 GMT).

According to Semnan Seismological Center affiliated to Seismological Center of the Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the epicenter of the quake was registered at 55.23 degrees longitude and 48.25 degrees latitude at the depth of 12 kilometers underground.

Speaking to IRNA, Hassan Argi, a local official, said there are no reports yet about the possible losses of the earthquake.

Fear of possible aftershocks has caused people to leave their house gathering in the main squares of the city and surrounding villages.
