Armenian PM sees Mugiri as bridge for Iran, Russia businessmen

Moscow, Jan 23, IRNA – Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan explained here on Tuesday that his country's economic measures, such as commissioning free zone of Mugiri in border with Iran, and said that the region could work as a bridge between Iranian and Russian businessmen.

He pointed to setting up of Mugiri Free Trade Zone in border area between Armenia and Iran in year 2017, and underlined that Mugiri is an appropriate platform for the Russian businessmen interested to enter the Iranian market.

'Armenia is ready for joint venture projects with the Russian businessmen,' Karapetyan added.

Karapetyan said that Eurasia Union member-states, including Russian businessmen, may use the possibilities in MFTZ and export their goods to Iran.

He stressed that the Iranian businessmen also may use premium tariff in Armenia and export their goods to Eurasia Union member-states and other countries.

The prime minister said Armenia is using Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) in countries like Canada, Switzerland, Norway and Japan, and added that Armenia is among one of 10 countries, which are using GSP tariff for exporting around 6,400 kinds of goods to the European Union countries.

He said that Armenia joined REX system from the beginning of 2018, in which organizations register in electronic system just once and they do not need to present new certificate of origin for each time exporting goods to the EU states.

Armenia with a population of 3 million is located in Caucasus Region and it is bordering Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan Republic and Iran.
