Rouhani pledges to abide by his main election promises

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani said that he will abide by the two major promises he made to the people while campaigning for the second term in office.

Speaking in a televised speech late on Monday, he named job creation and removal of extreme poverty as the two major pledges, saying, “I have incorporated the two in the next Iranian calendar year’s budget.”

He also called on the legislators to help him fulfill these goals, hoping that Majlis (Parliament) will approve the budget in a way that his government would be able to fulfill his electoral promises.

Rouhani further noted that his administration is seeking to build a better future for the nation and help improve economic and cultural conditions for them.

President Rouhani was reelected as Iran's president on May 19 with more than 23.5 million votes on a platform of economic development, creating jobs and promoting social freedoms among others.
