Chinese UN envoy: JCPOA model of peaceful solution to int'l issues

New York, Jan 18, IRNA - Chinese Ambassador to the UN Wu Haitao described the 2015 nuclear deal (between Iran and G5+1) as an achievement of multilateralism and a model of peaceful solution to international issues.

Addressing a meeting of UN Security Council on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction on Thursday, said that all should continue effective efforts to ensure the full implementation of the pact.
He reiterated that non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is a security issue and achieving it requires redefining international relations and taking actions to stop war and establish peace.

The Chinese envoy further noted that double standards should be removed from international behavior and equality in rights should be pursued as the first step towards achieving the goals of non-proliferation.

Instead of restricting countries’ use of peaceful nuclear technology, the international community should prepare the grounds for such peaceful applications and not stripping countries of their rights.

China has made great efforts to move toward negotiations on nuclear issues, urging all the countries to work together in the field, he said.

Under the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran received sanctions relief in return for restricting its nuclear program.
