Talks only way to resolve Iran-Arab differences: Iraqi official

Beirut, Jan 18, IRNA – Differences between Iran and some Arab countries will be resolved only through negotiations, a senior Iraqi official said on Thursday.

Undersecretary of the Iraqi National Security Falih al-Fayyaz told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that every country in the region, including Arab countries, need strong relations with other countries, mutual respect and refraining from sectarianism as a trump card, he said.

All these elements can be achieved through talks, he said referring to the 2nd international conference on “Iran and Arabs' that his under way in Beirut.

Meetings and talks play a major role in resolving differences, as they will help knowing each other, he said, adding, 'Negotiation is the basis of the differences.'

He also described his country's relations with Iran as satisfying, adding that fighting terrorism was a showcase of the ties.

'Iraq enjoyed special relations with Iran during the years it was fighting terrorism,' he said.

'We have a good impression of having relations with Iran, and the ties will play an important role in navigating the Arab-Iranian relationship in the future.'

The two-day conference on Iran and Arabs themed “Toward Common Future: Security, Stability and Cooperation” kicked off on Wednesday.
