Iran spearheading war on terrorism: Syrian analyst

Beirut, Jan 18, IRNA – Iran is at the center of the efforts to resolve regional challenges, including terrorism, a Syrian analyst said.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Aqeel Mahfudh, a prominent Syrian writer and analysts accused the Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir of provocation in the region.

Al-Jubeir, whose country has been involved in Yemen's bloody war since 2015, has recently claimed that Iran is a major threat to the region.

Rejecting the Saudi Arabia's reading of Iran and the developments in the region, he said that terrorism is one of the biggest challenges in the region that has affected many countries, including Iraq, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.

'Terrorism is not limited to Daesh (ISIS), rather it can include the (Zionist) Israeli regime and the US interference in the region,' he said.

Mahfudh, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd international conference on “Iran and Arabs' in Beirut, also rejected accusations that attribute sectarianism to Iran, saying that the country has been open to having relations with all Arab countries in the region since the 1970s.

The two-day conference opened on Wednesday, attended by scores of scholars and figures from Arabi and Muslim countries.
