Iran, Armenia call for boosting Parliamentary ties

Moscow, Jan 18, IRNA – Iran's envoy to Armenia and a senior Armenian lawmaker urged the need to boost the parliamentary ties between the two countries.

Kazem Sajjadi in a meeting with head of Iran-Armenia friendship group in Armenia's parliament Vahram Baghdasarian discussed ways to boost parliamentary relations, including a visit by the Iranian parliament speaker to Armenia to lay grounds for more cooperation in the near future.

Ambassador Sajjadi also called for more parliamentary ties with Armenia. He said that the parliaments of the two countries can play a big role in easing trade ties.

Referring to his recent visit to Tehran, Baghdasarian described the meetings and consultations with Iranian parliamenterians, particularly with the friendship group, as constructive and suggested that the parliaments of Iran and Armenia can promote bilateral ties in other spheres.

The meeting was attended by all the members of the Iran-Armenia friendship group.

Armeina with a population of approximately 3 million people is located in the Caucasus region. The country became independent following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It shares borders with Turkey, Georgia, Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran.
