Burkina Faso MP calls for expansion of parliamentary ties

Tehran, Jan 15, IRNA – Burkina Faso parliament Vice-Speaker Salifu Timore on Monday called for expansion of bilateral relations with Iran, especially in the field of parliamentary activities.

Timore made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with head of Iran-Burkina Faso parliamentary friendship group Mehdi Farshadan.

He said that the two countries have common viewpoints in bolstering mutual cooperation.

He also expressed sympathy with bereaveed families of the victims of the sunken Iranian oil tanker (Sanchi) who have tragically lost their lives after the tanker collided on January 6, 2018, with a Chinese freighter in East China waters and exploded. Sanchi was carrying 136,000 tons of gas condensate.

Timore extended his condolences to the Iranian government and nation for the sad incident.

Head of Iran-Burkina Faso parliamentary friendship group Mehdi Farshadan said Iran's strategy in Africa is development of all-out cooperation with African states, including Burkina Faso, and added that parliamentary cooperation is among important and effective grounds in ties between Tehran and African countries.

He added that promotion of parliamentary cooperation level may play an effective role in development of relations in different fields of energy, mine and agriculture.

Farshadan also appreciated Burkina Faso government and parliament stances in support of Palestine, especially in opposition with the US policy for holy Quds.
