Iran MP blasts Trump 'farcical' sanctions rhetoric

Tehran, Jan 14, IRNA – What the US President Donald Trump says about putting under new sanctions Iranian individuals and institutions are just absurdities, said chairman of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the open session of Majlis on Sunday, derided at the tired rhetoric used by Trump in announcing imposition of new sanctions on Iranian entities and individuals, saying 'This shows his lack of political and international understanding.'

'Words like farcical and preposterous best suit to describe his sanction rhetoric,' Boroujerdi said.

'It is in the absence of a political and international understanding that someone tries to set conditions for an international agreement already signed by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council,' the Iranian MP said, referring to the July 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Boroujerdi said that the addition of new articles to the Iran nuclear deal or elimination of articles is just illusions specifically belonged to Trump.

'Even his aides have been warning him about acting against the international trends,' he said.

The senior Iranian parliamentarian also said that the US use of its leverages in different countries to make others impose sanctions against Iran is also in violation of the text of the JCPOA.

'The JCPOA could neither be renegotiated nor changed,' Boroujerdi stressed.

He went on to say that Iran is monitoring all the violations of the deal.

'The Islamic Republic of Iran will take any measures needed to defend its rights,' the MP added.
