Iran always in my heart: Outgoing UN envoy

Tehran, Jan 13, IRNA - Iran is always in my heart and I was very much impressed by great Iranian civilization in the past five years living and working there, United Nations' outgoing ambassador to Iran said.

'Iran is always in my heart,' Gary Lewis said in an exclusive interview with IRNA.

Lewis said that he has been very much impressed by the Iranian civilization and culture.

The Iranian people are powerful and will be able 'to play a very important role' in building the future of the mankind, Lewis added.

He urged all people to join the fight against environmental problems, and said, 'We should not succumb to famine.'

The outgoing ambassador referred to the impact of sanctions on Iran's development, and said that if sanctions are lifted, Iran will be able to decrease 12 percent of greenhouse gases.

Lewis urged cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan to resolve the environmental problems in the border regions.

Lewis was the UN resident coordinator in Iran since 2013.
