Indonesia intends to strengthen relationship with Iran

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 13, IRNA- The Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of Indonesia Nurhayati Ali Assegaf says her country is after strengthening ties with Iran.

Speaking to IRNA over phone at Jakarta airport Thursday night before departing for Tehran to attend
the 13th Conference of Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, she said that in a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia 'I emphasized that we should really strengthen our relationship and bring people closer to each other.
“Indonesia and Iran aren’t far from each other as both of them are located in Asia, so we can work together, especially in economic areas to benefit people of both countries.”
The Member of House of Representative of the Republic of Indonesia stated that as the most populous Muslim country, Indonesia has always supported Islamic countries and intends to achieve closer relationships with them.
“We from the inter-parliamentary committee of Indonesia, will attend the conference in Tehran with the hope of revitalizing the Islamic Union. We should try to set up some committees to focus on the conflicts in Islamic World in order to solve them”, said Dr. Nurhayati Ali Assegaf , adding that women and children are always the victims of wars and conflicts.
“We believe in Islam and Islam means peace”, the member of Indonesia Parliament continued that Islam tells Muslims to solve their problems peacefully and through negotiations.
In response to a question regarding (US President) Donald Trump's statement on moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, she said: “Of course it’s hurting us. It is not because we are Muslim. It is an unfair statement. This is Palestinian land. The whole Al Quds belongs to Palestine.”
“Even the two state solution was difficult for the people, who have lost their lands, to accept”, she said and stated that the United States and Israel are not even following the “unfair” UN resolution, which everyone agreed to follow to achieve peace.
She added that all of the occupied lands from West Bank to Gaza belong to Palestinians.
“How can you call the occupier of a land its owner?” she questioned in reaction to Trump’s decision.
The 13th Conference of Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States will be held from January 13- 17 in Tehran.
