13 wounded in W. Iran quakes: Official

Qasr-e Shirin, Jan 12, IRNA – Dozens o aftershock in the western Kermanshah Province of Iran have left at least 13 people wounded, a local official said on Friday.

Sumar, a border region in Gilan-e Gharb county in Kermanshah Province has been rocked by more than 70 tremors since Thursday morning until this morning, with the biggest magnitude of 5.6 in the morning.

Acting Governor of Gilan-e Gharb Farhad Hemmati told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that 13 people were injured, and some buildings in the city of Gilan-e Gharb have been seriously damaged.

'The aftershocks hiting the area on Friday morning also destroyed some residential units as well as barns in villages near the city.'

'Members of the Disaster Management Center in the region are on full alert, and assessment teams have been dispatched to investigate the damages inflicted on towns and cities,' he said.

Last November, Kermanshah was rocked when a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit the Ezgeleh region killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.

Gilan-e Gharb, home to 72,000 people, lies on the western part of Kermanshah Province.
