Iran following case of 30 disappeared crews: Tehran

Tehran, Jan 7, IRNA – Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that Tehran is closely following the case of 30 Iranian crew members who are still not accounted for following their oil tanker collided with a Chinese cargo vessel near China shores Saturday night.

'The Iranian embassy in Beijing is in close contact with the Chinese officials to get complete information about dimensions of the incident,' Hassan Qashqavi Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs said.

'As the collision between the two vessels has taken place 160 miles away from Shanghai, the Foreign Ministry is also communicating with Iran's consulate general in the Chinese city to get every detail about the incident,' Qashqavi said.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry official stressed that the ministry will release information on the incident only after gaining precise data.

According to Qashqavi, the Iranian tanker was carrying petroleum derivatives and petrochemical materials.

Thirty Iranians and two Bangladeshis were reportedly among the crew members of the Iranian ship.
