Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA - An honoring program entitled “80 Years of Loris Tjeknavorian”, for the legendary Iranian, Armenian composer and conductor is currently underway at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall, it was reported late Friday.

Tjeknavorian is being honored for his lifetime achievements during a weeklong program, which inaugurated with a concert by the Tehran Contemporary Ensemble performing “Requiem for the Massacred”.

The piece has been composed by Tjeknavorian to commemorate the massacred Armenians.

The concert was attended by Armenian archbishop of Iran, several staff of Swiss Embassy in Tehran as well as a large number of Iranian artists.

The event was followed at the Iranian Artists Forum on Friday by screening “Pilgrimage to Gyumri”, a documentary about a concert that Tjeknavorian put on to support the victims of the December 7, 1988 earthquake in northern Armenia, which claimed 25,000 lives and left hundreds of thousands living rough.
