French UN envoy opposes to exploitation of Iran situation by foreigners

New York, Jan 6, IRNA - Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Francois Delattre stressed the need for maintaining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying that Paris is opposed to taking advantage of Iran’s developments by foreign countries.

He made the remarks on Friday while speaking to reporters prior to a UN Security Council meeting on Iran which is being held based on the US call.

Delattre said that he has three messages from Paris on Iran’s issue. The first message is to be vigilant and feel concern over violent rallies in Iran.

The other message, said the French envoy, is to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as it is the biggest diplomatic achievement in the past decade and serves as a cornerstone for regional and international stability.

The third message, Delattre said, is to negotiate with Iran, as French president has earlier called for continuation of effective and demanding talks with Iran on various issues including its missile program and regional role.

Delattre said that he will also raise the three messages in Security Council’s session.

The UNSC session is held upon US call while it is predicted that there will be serious disagreement during the meeting by other members of the council.
US President Donald Trump and members of his administration have angered Iranians by repeatedly posting insulting tweets against the nation.
However, following the recent social protests in Iran, the US president claimed that he supports the Iranian nation

Reacting to President Trump’s interfering statements, Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted, “Trump has odd way of showing such respect for Iranians: from labeling them a 'terrorist nation' & banning them from visiting the US, to petty insults on the name of the Persian Gulf. But best of all, helping them by depriving them of the economic dividends from the JCPOA.”

Also reacting to Trump’s meddling in Iran’s affairs, the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN Gholamali Khoshroo said in a letter on January 4, “The current US administration, despite its recent empty statements, has continuously insulted the great Iranian nation and displayed open hostility towards Iranian people, including inter-alia by banning ordinary Iranian citizens from entering the United States.”

Khoshroo called on all member-states to condemn the interventionist acts of the US and urge it to remain committed to the international law and the United Nations Charter.
