Senior Iranian official warns against directing protests toward gov't

Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA - A senior official at the presidential office said on Friday that leading Iran's protests toward the government does not serve national security and blaming the government for any social dissatisfaction is not a solution to the country's problems.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the President for Political Affairs Hamid Aboutalebi made the remarks in a Twitter message on Friday while commenting on recent protests of the Iranian nation made against some economic problems and shortcomings. The protests have turned violent in some cases.

Aboutalebi recalled statements made by Tehran’s, interim Friday prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami who said, “Based on Article 72 of the Constitution, people's voice should be heard and their rights should not be lost amid such unrests.”

Welcoming Ayatollah Khatami’s remarks, Aboutalebi tweeted, “Good remarks indicating that this right (protest) is recognized and will always be respected as it is based on the Constitution and has nothing to do with governments.”
