The quake was felt in Goharan village in Bashagerd, Hormozgan Province at 3:17 am (local time).
Seismography Center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute reported the location of the quake at 26.57 degrees latitude and 58.48 degrees longitude, with a depth of 10 km.
There was no initial report of injuries or damage to infrastructure.
An earthquake of nearly the same magnitude had rocked Goharan in July 2017.
