Macron: Maintaining permanent dialogue with Iran significant

Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA – French President Emanuel Macron said on Thursday that maintaining permanent dialogue with Iran is important as breaking off ties and unraveling the nuclear deal would run the risk of war.

He made the remarks as to certain countries’ stances vis-à-vis Iran’s issues.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony marking the new year, he added that France has clear relations with the Iranian officials and wants to preserve the ties, otherwise; it would lead to revival of ‘axis of evil’ once again.

He referred to the phrase coined by the former US President George W. Bush to call Iran, Iraq and North Korea to justify his country’s trans-regional military interventions.

Pointing to increased international pressure on Iran, Macron said the official stance pursued by the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia which are France’s allies in many fields, is in fact the one which is driving us to war.

As to his visit to Iran, he said that prerequisite to the trip is restoration of calm coupled with respecting freedom.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he reaffirmed his support to the nuclear deal and stressed the need to preserve it.

Over the past months, France along with other European states took stance against US demand to terminate and renegotiate the nuclera deal, officially known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

However, Iran believes that the accord is neither negotiable nor amendable.
