Karaj, Jan 2, IRNA – Iranian wrestler Ali Jalijou ranked 2nd in 2017 Asia Zurkhaneh and Palahvani Wrestling Championship which was held in the Philippines.

“Jalijou in the weight category of 70 kg stood second in the sport event,” Head of Alborz Pahlavani and Zurkhaneh sports committee Meysam Movahedi Mehr told Islamic Repubic News Agency (IRNA).

“Iranian national team received 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals,” he said.

Jaliljou also ranked 1st in the fast spin field of the 6th Asian Zourkhaneh Sports and Koshti Palahvani Championship.

Zourkhaneh Sports and Koshti Palahvani is a traditional system of athletics originally used to train Persian warriors in Iran since the Achaemenid Empire.

It combines martial arts, calisthenics, strength training and music. Recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as among the world's longest-running forms of such training.

Practiced in a domed structure called the Zourkhaneh, training sessions consist mainly of ritual gymnastic movements and climax with the core of combat practice, a form of submission-grappling called Koshti Pahlavani.
