Iran denies conducting hostage rescue operation in Afghanistan

Zahedan, Jan 2, IRNA – Reports released by some antagonistic media suggesting that Iran has carried out an operation to free a hostage in the Afghan Province of Nimruz are fabricated and not valid, the Deputy Governor-General of Iran's Sistan, Baluchestan Province said.

'There are five governorates in Iran's Sistan region in the southeastern Province of Sistan, Baluchestan, including Hamoon, Hirmand, Zahak, Zabol and Nimrooz,' Ali Asghar Mirshekari told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday.

Mirshekari said that over the past few days, the Iranian forces have carried out an operation in Sistan's Nimrooz region to free a hostage.

'The foreign news outlets most probably have mistaken the Nimrooz region in Iran's Sistan, Baluchestan for a similar name, the Nimruz Province in Afghanistan, saying the rescue operation by Iran has been conducted in the southwestern part of the country,' he said.

This has provided the opportunist and antagonist media with a chance to make their scenario to create criseis, cause disputes and provoke Iran's neighbor Afghanistan, the provincial official added.

'We dismiss all such allegations aimed at disturbing the relations with the friendly and brotherly nation of Afghanistan,' Mirshekari said.
