Iran can link Kazakhstan to Persian Gulf region: Expert

Baku, Dec 31, IRNA – Due to its access to the Persian Gulf, Iran can act as an appropriate corridor to connect Kazakhstan to Arab countries, Pakistan and India, a Central Asia expert said.

“Kazakhstan, for its turn, can serve as a bridge for Iran to access China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan,” Meysam Araie Darunkala told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday.

“Darunkala referred to natural and geopolitical conditions of Kazakhstan and the isolation imposed on it during the Soviet era as well as similar economic advantages, possessed by the two countries as main reasons for low level of relations between Tehran and Astana.

“As far as religion is concerned, Iran and Kazakhstan have 75 percent of similarity,” he said, referring to the fact that relation between the two countries should be reviewed from different aspects.

“Both countries have less than two percent in common regarding the language and less than 0.5 percent regarding the ethnicity,” Darunkala added.

The Central Asia expert urged promoting economic and political ties to develop relations between the two countries.
