Pakistan border to become ‘border of peace’: Pak army

Islamabad, Dec 28, IRNA – Efforts are underway to make Iran-Pakistan border more secure, turning it into a 'border of peace', the spokesperson for Pakistan army said.

The Iran-Pakistan border will become in true sense, a border of peace, said Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) during a news briefing in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

General Ghafoor said that new crossing points would be opened at Iran-Pakistan border to facilitate pilgrims and people living in areas at the two sides of the border.

'No organized infrastructure of any banned organization is present in Pakistan. We have fought twice an imposed and imported war in Pakistan and now we cannot do any more for anyone,' he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the aid Pakistan had received from Washington, the Major General argued the US aid was meant to reimburse Islamabad's anti Al Qaeda efforts.

'Whatever we are doing and we will do is solely for the people of Pakistan. The aid we received (from the US), was reimbursement for the support we gave to the coalition for its fight against Al Qaeda, had we not supported the US and Afghanistan, they would never have been able to defeat Al Qaeda,' Ghafoor said.

'There are no facilitators in Pakistan and we have gone a long way to support peace in the region,' he said, reiterating that Pakistan will 'do more' to provide such supports if asked by the United States.

Discussing the measures taken by Pakistan against for the elimination of terrorist elements form the region, Ghafoor said, 'We have started the construction of forts and posts on the Afghan border, for effective border management, what more does the US and Afghanistan want from us?'

'It is time that Afghanistan and the US do more for Pakistan,' he said.

'No country is more interested in Afghan peace than us, as we know that peace there means peace in Pakistan,' he stressed.

Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa visited Iran last month with an aim to expand ties with Iran in all spheres. He had useful discussions with Iranian leaders, including President Hassan Rouhani.
