Trump Quds decision to fan flames of religious conflicts: PLO official

Ramallah, Dec 28, IRNA – The repercussions of the US decision of recognizing Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime of Israel will spill over from the region to other parts of the world, fanning flames of religious conflicts, a Palestinian official said.

'Unreasonable policies adopted by Washington have provoked feelings and emotions of the Muslims and Christians, and fuelled religious conflicts,' Hannan Ashrawi senior member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in an interview on Thursday.

Contrary to what some people believe, the fire Trump has started will go beyond the Middle East and will not remain limited to the Occupied Territories, Ashrawi said.

Describing the decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Quds as a 'US green light to the radical and illegal moves', she said: 'We are facing very dangerous conditions with multiple difficult dimensions.'

The public fury over the past three weeks is evidence to the difficult situation we are facing now, she added.

'When the biggest government of the world violates the international law and does not respect the rational views…, it would not be unimaginable that many capitals in the world join the protest against the violation of the legal and historical rights of the Palestinians; the rights that are even stipulated in the laws and agreements of the past seventy years,' Ashrawi said.

The controversial decision by Trump that was announced on December 6 has prompted strong criticisms from all around the world.

The Palestinians see the holy city of Quds as the capital of their future country.
