Iran's first-half economic growth at 6%: Veep

Mashad, Dec 28, IRNA – Iran witnessed six percent growth in its economy in the first six month of the calendar year started on March 21, the first vice-president said.

The figure is considered for Iran's economic growth excluding the oil income, Eshaq Jahangiri said at a provincial meeting held in this northeastern Iranian city on Wednesday.

Iran recorded a single-digit inflation rate during the past two years which indicated that an important work has been done in the area of economy, he added.

He said that the country has also seen positive growth in attracting foreign and domestic investments. 'The country's growth is on a good trend,' said the veep adding that Iran has gained achievements in the international arenas.

About Iran-China deal on the Mashad-Tehran railway, Jahangiri said that letter of credit related to the project was opened.

Mashad-Zahedan railway project, he added, is among Iran's important regional projects and its construction will start in a ceremony on Friday.

At the end of his remarks about the country's economic situation, Jahangiri said that the free zones should not only be destinations for imports but also be used for exports.
