Red Crescent of Turkey calls for Iran's experiences on plasma transfusion

Tehran, Dec 26, IRNA – A delegation from Turkey's Red Crescent Society in a meeting with Managing Director of Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization Ali Akbar Pour-Fatollah on Tuesday called for transferring Iran's successful experiences on plasma transfusion to Turkey.

As World Health Organization (WHO) announced on 2015 that if other states follow up Iran's model in producing plasma, world will produce 9.5 million liters of plasma and world will supply medicine from drugs derived plasma.

Pour-Fatollah said it is due to produce one million liters of plasma in the year 2020.

By having a population of 80 million population and around 2 million blood donors, Turkey has similarity with Iran's situation.

The Turkish delegation is to visit Tehran Blood Transfusion Department on Wednesday.

Blood donation in Iran is completely voluntarily and more than 2.1 million donors annually donate their blood in Iran.
