Shahr-e Kord, Dec 26, IRNA – Over 130 quakes have rocked Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21).

'The biggest tremor was measured 5-magnitude on the Richter scale,” Head of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Seismology Network Hassan Mir Ahmadi told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday.

“Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari with 12 active faults is one the most earthquake-prone areas,” he said.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
