Iranian speaker stresses expansion of ties with Afghanistan

Islamabad, Dec 26, IRNA - Iran Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has supported expansion of all-out political, economic, cultural and security cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

He expressed his support in a meeting on Monday with the President of the Wolesi Jirga (House of People) National Assembly of Afghanistan Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi and his parliamentary delegation on the sidelines of the First Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad.

Describing the participation of Afghan delegation in the conference as important, the Iranian speaker welcomed the vision of Afghanistan in countering terrorism.

He emphasized that there is a need to enhance cooperation among the regional states to solve the regional problems.

The Afghan speaker termed the role of Iran in the region as important and said Afghanistan desires strong ties with Iran.

Ibrahimi expressed the hope that countries of the region with close cooperation will be able to root out menace of terrorism. He said that lots of opportunities of cooperation are available for regional states.

Pakistan National Assembly hosted 1st Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad to discuss and address the challenges of terrorism and inter-regional connectivity.

The conference was attended by Iran, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, Russian Federation and Turkey.
Earlier Iranian Speaker Ali Larijani had announced that the next round of the conference will be held in Tehran next year.
