Regional states working together in fight against terrorism

Tehran, Dec 25, IRNA – Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said that parliament speakers of the newly-ended six-nation Speakers Conference exchanged views in the fields of security and intelligence to fight against terrorism.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters upon his arrival from Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad where he attended on Monday the conference which was focused on challenges and threats of terrorism.

Commenting on the achievements of his three-day visit to Islamabad, he said that regional turbulence has had an upward trend over the past decades. Therefore, the regional states attended the meeting to adopt a strategy to fight terrorism.

Larijani addressed the conference describing terrorism as the catastrophe of the mankind.

Noting that the conference brought together Russia, China, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, he said that the parliament speakers expressed their views to develop a common understanding on security and intelligence arenas in line with the fight against terrorism.

The event also discussed boosting economic relations to eliminate poverty and implement the big projects on the ground so that regional convergence will improve, he said.

“If resolves are strengthened, peace and stability will be established in the region,” he said, noting that the next round of the conference will be held in Tehran in the coming year.

Another advantage of the conference was that the countries which were at odds presented their views during the event, Larijani said, noting, “We also held talks on economic relations with speakers of other countries.”

“In a meeting with Russian counterpart, we dealt with implementation of railway and energy projects,” he said.

Larijani further stated that Iran’s political relations with Pakistan, Russia, Turkey and China are high, as they are continuing consultations.
