OPCW condoles martyrdom of Iran chemical veteran

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA – The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in a written message has conveyed its condolences over death of the Iranian chemical war-injured veteran Ali Khoshlafz.

The OPCW's Public Affairs Branch in a recent letter to Khoshlafz's wife expressed sadness and condolences over death of the war veteran on December 20,Tehran, describing him as 'an important Iranian voice for chemical disarmament', according to a statement issued by the Iranian embassy in the Netherlands.

'We feel your loss deeply – an important Iranian voice for chemical disarmament and a friend is no longer with us,' wrote the message.

The OPCW message then went on to praise the great job undertaken by Khoshlafz to combat spread of the chemical weapons.

'We were honored to welcome Mr Khoshlafz to our Headquarters in October. He recognized the importance of the OPCW's mission to rid the world of chemical weapons, and we were sincerely grateful for his efforts to travel to The Hague despite his ill health. He was extremely generous with his time and spoke eloquently about his terrible experiences of gas warfare and his long battle with the after-effects,' read the message.

'Mr Khoshlafz testimony will serve as a powerful message against chemical weapons.'
