Judiciary spokesman: No talks on releasing dual national prisoners

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA - Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said on Sunday that no talks have been held on the release or swap of prisoners Nazanin Zaghari and Kamal Foroghi as this is the responsibility of the judiciary system.

Speaking to reporters, he said if one day they become subject to certain regulations such as conditional release the law will be effective for them as well.

For example, Ejei said, 'according to Iran's laws, those prisoners who have been sentenced to less than ten years and have already spent one year in prison, can be given conditional freedom based on certain legal predictions.'

Zaghari, who worked for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was arrested in Kerman in April 2016 on charges related to national security; she has been sentenced to five years in jail.
