US move against Quds to harm Zionist regime: Palestinian figure

Damascus, Dec 23, IRNA – US decision to recognize the Holy Quds as the capital of Zionist regime of Israel will harm the occupying regime in the near future, a senior Palestinian figure said.

'Trump decision to recognize Quds as the new capital of Zionist regime was not only a sinister measure but it also was an unwise decision that will harm the Zionist regime interests in the coming days,' Mohammad al-Bahisi, head of the Palestine-Iran Friendship Association said in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

He noted that certain Arab countries are not only oppressing the Palestinian nation but also act in line with the Zionist regime interests.

The official pointed to a coalition made by Saudi Arabia and its allies against the resistance front in the region and said that the coalition has boosted the US hostility with Iran as well as the former's hope to weaken the resistance front. This plot has also marginalized the cause of Palestine, Al-Bahisi said.

He criticized Saudi Arabia and its allies in the Persian Gulf region for taking steps towards normalization of bilateral relations with the Zionist regime.

Al-Bahisi urged all Muslims to help saving the Palestinian Intifada and urged the Arab countries to close the Zionist regime's embassies in their countries.

The United Nations General Assembly approved on Thursday a resolution to condemn the US president's new policy on recognizing the Holy Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime. The General Assembly voted 128-9, with 35 abstentions, to declare Trump's declaration 'null and void.'

Last Monday, UNSC discussed Egypt's draft resolution about the Holy Quds, 14 out of 15 members agreed with the draft resolution, but the US vetoed it.

The draft resolution wanted all the countries not to move their embassies to Quds.
