Damascus supports Syrian National Dialogue Congress

Baku, Dec 23, IRNA - Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations Bashar al-Ja'afari said that representatives of the Syrian government will take part in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress slated to be held in Russia, late in January and Syria is determined to support the congress.

He made the remarks at the end of the Eighth Syrian Peace Talks in Astana late on Friday, adding that based on the agreement among the guarantor states of Iran, Russia and Turkey, Syrian National Discourse Congress will be held in the Black Sea resort of Sochi from January 29-30.

Ja’afari said that Syria is to participate in the congress and will take all its efforts to make arrangements for holding the gathering which serves as suitable ground for discourse among all Syrian groups.

On Thursday and Friday, Astana hosted another round of negotiations attended by representatives from Russia, Turkey and Iran, which are the guarantor states that brokered a cease-fire in Syria in December 2016, leading to the Astana peace talks that are running parallel to Geneva talks.

Ja’afari also called for immediate and unconditional exit of alien forces from the Syrian territories.

'Syrian government considers Turkish troops’ presence in Syria as intentional aggression and US’ emphasis to deploy its forces in the Syrian territory without any coordination with the government in Damascus is violation of Syria's sovereignty,' he said.
