Iraqi Shia, Sunni tribal leaders back Iraq integrity, Quds

Baghdad, Dec 22, IRNA – Iraqi Shia and Sunni tribal leaders on Friday expressed their support for Quds and integrity of their country.

At the conference which was held at Palestine Hotel in Baghdad, Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Badr Organization, Palestine's Ambassador to Baghdad Ahmed Akl, and leaders of major Iraqi tribes delivered speeches.

Acknowledgement for Ayatollah Sistani's fatwa, who called for fight against the terrorist group Daesh (ISIS), and Iran's support for the fight against terrorism in Iraq were among the topics delivered by the speakers.

Al-Amiri said that he has frequently appreciated Iran's help rather than the international coalition because it was the only country that rushed to help Iraq against Daesh in the early days of the terrorist group rise, but others arrived when we Iraqis were on their own feet.

Akl, the Palestinian ambassador, also highlighted the importance of Iraq's integrity, and hailed the support for Palestinians' rights by the country's people and government.

Following the US President Donald Trump's decision recognizing Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime of Israel, Akl added, the world showed that it did not accept the decision and resisted it despite the threats by Washingon.

As a diplomatic blow to US, a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly was passed on Thursday by 128 votes in condemnation of the decision by Trump to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Quds.

In the final communiqué, the participants congratulated the victory of Iraq in fighting against terrorism and rejected separatist efforts in the country.

Appreciating the resolution passed at the UN by the international community, they also emphasized that no entity has the right to decide on Palestine and Quds, except for the Palestinians.

Ambassadors from Muslims and Arab countries, including Iranian Ambassador Iraj Masjedi, attended the conference.
