Iran deputy FM discusses ties with Syrian envoy in Astana

Baku, Dec 21, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs who is in Astana to participate in the 8th Syrian International Conference, started his bilateral meetings with Syrian officials on Thursday.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari, also Iran's top negotiator, met with Syria's permanent representative in the United Nations and Head of Syrian delegation Bashar al-Jaafari on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in Syria and discussed outlooks of holding intra-Syria dialogue to peacefully settle the Syrian crisis and also the agenda of the 8th round of talks.

Syrian Peace Talks, which started in February 2017 and today is holding its 8th round of its 2-day talks, has achieved positive results in the field of holding ceasefire and reduction of tensions in populated area of Syria.

Kazakhstan is hosting the conference and delegations from Iran, Russia and Turkey, as three guarantor states, delegation from Syrian government and its opposition groups as well as representatives from the UN, the US and Jordan by observer status are attending conference.
