Guarantor states start negotiations at 8th Astana Talks

Baku, Dec 21, IRNA – The bilateral negotiations started between delegations from the guarantor states (Iran, Russia and Turkey) who are attending the 8th round of Astana Talks, Kazakhstan, on Thursday.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari, who is also Iran's top negotiator in Syria Peace International Conference, is also attending the Astana Talks.

The 8th Astana International Conference is scheduled to be wrapped up on December 22.

Delegations from guarantor states, the Syrian government and the opposition groups as well as observers like the UN, the US and Jordan are participating in this round of talks.

Astana Talks on Syria initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin and upon his agreement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in December 2016 and then Iran's agreement began by trilateral participation of Moscow, Ankara and Tehran.
