Quake rocks western Iran again

Tehran, Dec 21, IRNA – An earthquake measuring 4.5 on Richter scale jolted Sarpol-e Zahab in Kermanshah Province, western Iran early Thursday.

The tremor occurred at 06: 20 local time early morning on Thursday (02:50 GMT). No casualties or damages to the properties have been reported so far.

The epicenter of the quake was recorded at 45.79 degrees longitude and 34.59 degrees latitude in the depth of 12 km.

Meanwhile, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on Richter scale also jolted Sarpol-e Zahab at 23: 31 local time late on Wednesday (20:01 GMT).

On November 12, Sarpol-e Zahab was hit by a fatal 7.3-magnitude earthquake which killed at least about 600 people and injured several thousands more.

The Wednesday night tremor in Sarpol-e Zahab occurred a few minutes after a 5.2-magnitude quake jolted the Iranian capital city of Tehran sending the panic-stricken people to the streets.

Tehran’s quake was also felt in Qom, Gilan, Qazvin and Markazi provinces.

No damage or casualties has been reported by the tremor.

Iran is crisscrossed by major geological fault lines and has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years.
