Assyrian MP: Orumiyeh may be introduced as capital of religions

Orumiyeh, Dec 18, IRNA – Secretary General of World Assyrian Union Yonathan Betkolia said Christians enjoy full security and tranquility in Iran, especially in Orumiyeh, so this city is eligible to be introduced as capital of ethnics and religions.

He made the remarks here on Monday in the first scientific gathering of 'Coexistence-Dialogue' in Orumiyeh University.

Betkolia said that strengthening unity among ethnics and religions should not be enough by theory, but it should be explained practically.

'It should not be allowed that a number of extremists show a tainted image of religion,' he said, adding, 'World Christians are ready to show appropriate interactions between different religions followers in Iran, especially in Orumiyeh city.'

The first national meeting of coexistence and dialogue was held in Orumiyeh city on December 18, simultaneously with day of world free from violence and extremism.

West Azarbaijan province had been residence of followers of different ethnics and divine religions from remote past and is considered a symbol of coexistence in Iran.
