Iranian child wins first place at FAO's Painting Competition 2017

Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA - Soheil Ahmadipour, the Iranian eight-year-old student by drawing a happy and active rural life where men and women work together to make the best use of land, water and soil, and produce most of their needs won the First award of the FAO’s Painting Competition on the occasion of World Food Day 2017.

“The competition that was Co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Women’s Guild in Rome, asked children and youth between ages of 5 and 19 to design in four categories, draw or paint a poster based on the World Food Day 2017 theme 'Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development,” FAO reported.

The participant poster entries were drawn, painted and sketched using pens, pencils, crayons, charcoal, oil, acrylic and watercolour paint, as well as mixed media. Digitally created artwork were also permitted to take part at the FAO’s competition.

Three winning poster designs were selected as finalists by a jury in each category. The top three poster designs in all categories are announced on the World Food Day website. Winners are promoted on FAO social media and by FAO offices around the world, and they will also receive a Certificate of Recognition and a surprise gift bag.

FAO celebrates World Food Day each year on 16 October to commemorate the founding of the Organization in 1945. Events are organized in over 150 countries across the world, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar.

These events promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

World Food Day and its advocacy campaigns, including the poster competition 2017 with participation of children across the world, is a chance to show global commitments to second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG2) – on achieving Zero Hunger by 2030.
