Burundi FM calls for enhancing ties with Iran

Algiers, Dec 16, IRNA – Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation of Burundi Alain Aime Nyamitwe in a meeting with Iran's accredited Ambassador to Burundi Morteza Mortazavi on Saturday underlined his country's intention to strengthen ties with Iran.

During the meeting, Nyamitwe said political relations between the two countries are desirable and growing and mutual cooperation in international organizations is continuing like before will be strengthened, but economic relations should be active in different fields as well.

He pointed to the opportunities and existing suitable grounds for mutual cooperation, and invited Iranian companies to invest in agricultural sector and launch modern irrigation systems in Burundi considering fertile lands, existing abundant water and cheap man power.

Mortazavi also underlined Iran's firm intention to consolidate and strengthen relations in different dimensions with Burundi and appreciated Burundi's cooperation with Iran in international organizations.

He pointed to the necessity of preparing facilities and necessary incentives for participation of Iranian economic activists, and expressed Iranian companies' readiness to present and participate in the development and infrastructure projects of Burundi as well as providing needs of the country by Iran's quality goods for export.

Burundi is located in central Africa and has a population of over 11 million who are mainly Christians.

Around 90 percent of its populations are working in the sector of Agriculture and cattle-breeding.
