Iran, S. Korea sign health insurance MoU

Seoul, Dec 15, IRNA – Iran Health Insurance Organization and South Korea Health Insurance Review Agency (HIRA) sealed an MoU on bilateral coopertion here on Friday.

The MoU was signed with the attendance of Iranian Health Minister Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi in Seoul.

Hashemi expressed interest to take advantage of HIRA's experiences in upgrading Iran insurance industry. He also hailed transferring insurance knowledge and technology to Iran.

'We hope to use these experiences in promoting health services,' Iranian minister added.

Meanwhile, HIRA chief Sung Tae Kim expressed hope for implementing the MoU signed between two sides.

Exchanging information and experience in insurance activities, evaluating the quality of services and monitoring drug intake are among the articles of the MoU.

Hashemi is visiting Seoul on the invitation of his South Korean counterpart.

During his three-day stay in the East Asian country, he is expected to take part in a conference on promoting medical and healthcare cooperation, pay a visit to a hospital, attend a Samsung medical and healthcare products fair in Seoul as well as hold a meeting with his South Korean counterpart.

Korean government prepared health insurance reform to change the health insurance system from being managed by multi-insurers to single insurer. According to this reform, National Health Insurance Act was enacted in February 1999. By this Act, HIRA was established in July 2000.
