Tehran backing stability of Balkans: Iran envoy

Belgrade, Dec 14, IRNA – The Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself a friend of the Bosnia and Herzegovina people, said the Iranian ambassador to the Balkan state in Sarajevo on Thursday.

'Iran has always supported solidifying stability in the Balkans and protection of territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its development as well as promotion of peaceful co-existence among all the ethnic groups in the region,' Mahmoud Heidari said, during a visit with Dragan Čović Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Heidari also said Iran, as the most stable in the region, has played a vital role in fighting terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Iran stays to be committed to protect security and stability of the region, he stressed.

The chairman of the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for his part said that his country was ready to use all capacities to promote bilateral ties between Tehran and Sarajevo in all areas, particularly in the field of economy.

The two officials also denounced the recent move by Washington to recognize the holy city of Al Quds in the Occupied Territories as the capital of the Zionist regime.

While the Iranian envoy described the White House move as desecration of Muslim sanctities, Čović said that what the US did will further complicate the situation in the region.

That is why most of the governments across the world, including the European governments re against the US decision, he added.
