OIC states recognize E. Jerusalem as capital of Palestine

Istanbul, Dec 13, IRNA/Anadolu - Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member-states called on world to recognize East Jerusalem (Holy Quds) as capital of Palestinian state.

OIC member-states, in a statement released following their extraordinary summit meeting in Istanbul on Wednesday, called on the world to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state and condemned the US administration's 'unlawful' decision on Jerusalem's status.

The OIC extraordinary Summit aiming to support Holy Quds started with the attendance of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday.

The Summit was held to explore ways to confront the US new policy to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Holy Quds.

Political figures and international organizations, including the United Nations (UN) as well as all the European Union (EU) member-states, warned the US against transfer of its embassy to Holy Quds.

The OIC draft statement was finalized at the end of the ministerial meeting on Wednesday morning.

Having 57 members, the OIC is the second largest inter-governmental body after the United Nations (UN). The organization was founded in 1969 with the purpose of safeguarding the Muslims' interests across the world.
