Trump's move, a wrong decision, only to add new tension in ME: Pak ex-envoy

Islamabad, Dec 13, IRNA -- Former Pakistani ambassador condemning US President Donald Trump’s decision to shift the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Beit-ul Moqaddas has said that it would add new tension in the region and can further aggravate the extremely volatile situation of the Middle East.

In an interview with IRNA, Ali Sarwar Naqvi, also Executive Director of the Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) said that this is a very wrong decision and complete violation of the international law and of many UN resolutions which have been passed.

The US president's announcement to recognize Beit-ul Moqaddas as the capital city of the Zionist regime has faced extensive criticisms all over the world even from the US allies.

Turkey as a rotating president of the OIC has called for a meeting of the OIC to confer on a recent decision by US President Donald Trump to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Expressing his views, Naqvi said that declaring the status of Jerusalem is a disputed question and it will be resolved when there is overall peace settlement. “Zionist Regime of Israel has no right to claim Jerusalem as its capital.”

The analyst said the US has no justification for relocating the embassy to al-Quds, which is not part of the Zionist Regime.

He noted that the international reaction to the decision is very strong and most countries of the world not only the Muslim countries, but many other countries, big powers like Russia, France, Britain have all expressed their disagreement to the United States.

“There can be many repercussions of this decision first there will be resistance in Palestine and that is already happening secondly the world community will take up with the US government the question as to why they have violated international law,” he said.

Former Ambassador added that unfortunately the Muslim world is not fully united on this issue, there was a time when the whole Muslim world was united and supporting the Palestinian cause and the people of Palestine, but now there are some Muslim countries which have diplomatic relations with the Zionist Regime of Israel and they are not working for the benefit of the Palestinian people.

He said Iran is a country which is upholding the principles of respecting Palestinian rights and Iran has condemned the decision to shift the US embassy to Jerusalem and Pakistan has also strongly condemned it so there are countries like Iran and Pakistan and many other Muslim countries which have opposed it.

“The Arab league has passed a resolution against the shifting of the embassy which would only add new tension in the region and it can further aggravate the extremely volatile situation of the Middle East,” he viewed.
