Iran's marine defense industry is indigenous: Commander

Kish Island, Dec 13, IRNA - Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said in southern Province of Hormozgan on Wednesday that Iran's marine defense industry has become indigenous and is self-sufficient in producing marine equipment and hardware.

Khanzadi made the remarks in the 19th International Maritime Industries Exhibition underway in the Persian Gulf Kish Island, Hormozgan Province.

Thanks to the Iranian talented university students and academics, he said, Iran could be considered an inspiring nation for other countries because despite sanctions, it has managed to make outstanding and lofty achievements in many areas.

Touching upon the active presence of Iranian Navy in high seas, he added that the maritime routes where Iranian forces are navigating enjoy the highest security from the pirate attacks.

Iran’s Navy is present round-the-clock in international waters to protect sea routes and provide security for regional countries.

In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian Navy has been also conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 in order to safeguard merchant containers and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran or other countries.

Iran’s Navy has managed to foil several attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers during its missions in international waters.

The 19th International Maritime Industries Exhibition hosts over 100 domestic and 60 foreign firms in an area covering 7,500 square meters.

Companies from Iran, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Italy, Turkey, China, Spain, Finland, France, the UAE, India, Malaysia, Greece, Denmark and South Korea are participating in the exhibition.
