MP: Unwise Trump act to worsen regional situation

Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA – A senior lawmaker said on Tuesday that unwise and uncalculated decision by US President Trump to recognize al-Quds as capital of the Zionist regime will lead to deterioration of the situation in the Middle East region.

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Aladdin Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with Armenia-Iran parliamentary friendship group Vahram Baghdasaryan.

Boroujerdi pointed to the regional developments, protests by the European and Islamic states against the move and called it as an indication of importance of Palestine in the world public opinion.

He underlined the importance of development and expansion of mutual cooperation in different fields, and said that historical friendly ties between Iran and Armenia are firm back-up in direction of broadening of relations, especially in parliamentary relations.

Boroujerdi added that holding dialogue and constant exchange of views between specialized commissions of the two parliaments may help develop cooperation in different fields of economic and security.

He underlined the necessity to develop cooperation in the field of joint venture projects in the sectors of industry, energy and transport.

Baghdasaryan said that Iran is an important and influential country in the region, so Armenian government and parliament emphasizes on strengthening and consolidating ties with Iran.

He said that Iran's balanced policy may help to establishment of peace and tranquility in the region.

The Armenian MP underlined acceleration in execution of economic agreements between the two countries and expressed the hope for increase in joint venture investment volume.

Following visit of President Rouhani to Armenia in January 2017 and holding talks with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, many senior delegations from both countries had reciprocal visits to each other's capitals and grounds for development of cooperation were prepared.

Armenia with around 30,000 square kilometers area and a population of 3 million in the Caucasus region is neighboring Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Azerbaijan Republic.
