Caspian Sea convention almost finalized: FM spox

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA – Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday that after 21 years of talks good successes have been achieved regarding the Caspian Sea legal regime.

'The convention, after some further expert and technical sessions, should go to Astana meeting to be decided on,' said Bahram Qasemi answering a question about the December 5 meeting in Moscow.

Foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, in their 7th meeting, discussed and signed cooperation plans on different spheres of the Caspian Sea, including economy, transportation, military maritime activities, combating drug trafficking, illegal fishing and shipping security, according to a statement issued by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had already told the reporters that five Caspian Sea littoral states have agreed that no foreign force can be deployed in the sea.
