Iran, UK ties based on mutual respect: FM Spox

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA – Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday that the ties between Iran and the UK are based on mutual respect.

'Today's Iran is not the Iran of a few decades ago, we have passed the 1970s and our relations with other governments are devised and administered in accordance with our own principles,' said Bahram Qasemi, answering a question regarding UK's past animosities and oppressions against Iran.

Qasemi said, 'Certainly one of our conditions is mutual respect and abstaining from interfering in other countries' affairs; the UK is no exception. We can have reasonable relations with the UK and other countries in the mentioned framework.'

He added that Tehran-London relations have had ups and downs in the past and hoped that London would take more positive and plausible steps toward bilateral cooperation.

Foreign ministry spokesman added that Iran will stick to its principles and, as an independent and influential country in the region, will organize its ties according to the situations.
