US responsible for any regional conflict: Iran defense minister

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA – The US should accept responsibility for any further tensions or bloodshed in the region after Washington's recognition of Holy Quds as the capital of the illegitimate Zionist regime, Iranian defense minister said here on Monday.

'The US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Holy Quds is a deep conspiracy against the oppressed Palestinians,' Brigadier General Amir Hatami said in a meeting with senior officials at his Ministry.

'The US measure,' Hatami added, 'will double the unity among Muslims and also precipitate the collapse of the Zionist regime.'

Political figures and international organizations including the United Nations (UN) as well as all the European Union (EU) member states warned the US not to transfer its embassy to the holy Quds (Jerusalem) upon a decision made by Trump on Wednesday (Dec 6).

'The global Arrogance is after adventurism and plots against the regional nations now that it is defeated in Syria and Iraq,' the minister said.

Condemning the US decision, Hatami said the occupiers will not live in peace anymore because Muslims will not let part of an Islamic country be separated.

Talking about Iran's regional policies, the minister said Tehran always supports the oppressed people of Palestine, backs the security and stability in the region and condemns the US and Zionist regime's unilateral measures.

Referring to the defeat of the terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS), Hatami said a big plot had been hatched by the enemies against the region, adding they were after a 'permanent conflict' between Shia and Sunni Muslims and also between the regional countries.

'If Daesh had not been uprooted from the region, the regional nations might have fought with each other instead of combating the Zionist regime and the terrorist groups,' the minister said.

The enemies still continue hatching plots against the region, the minister added.

Commenting on Iran's capablities in defense industry, Hatami said Iran has constantly been making progerss in the field.
